Caring for gerbera daisy?

I gave only a potted gerbera daisy and I want to keep it alive as long as I can (not flowers usually have very long). It sits inside with artificial light, since my office has no windows. I water my plants twice a week, but do not want to do the same with it because I have fear of excess water. Can once a week can? And it continues to thrive under artificial light?

The gerbera is an annual plant so it has a growing seaon then dies, but do not throw it out! It return year after year. After flowering is finished "(which can flourish in some time in ideal conditions, you can plant it in the garden and it will come back. Average water needs, water regularly, not on the water. It requires moist soil constantly, do not let dry out between waterings
